15 years of GoodWe solar equipment

The Chinese solar manufacturer GoodWe celebrated its 15th anniversary last week. Find out more about the company and its activities in Australia.

A short history of GoodWe

The company began operations in Suzhou, China, in November 2010 and launched its first solar inverter the following year. In 2015, GoodWe Australia was founded and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2020.

GoodWe then expanded from residential solutions into the C&I and utilities sector; is expanding its inverter range to include capacities from 0.7 kW to 350 kW.

GoodWe batteries began manufacturing in 2020 and Australia was one of the first markets where they were available. A GoodWe EV charger (HCA) was launched in late 2022 and has been available in Australia since October 2024. There is now a newer generation – the HCA G2 – which has an important function that the original charger does not offer; dynamic load balancing.

GoodWe also started hot water heat pump systems in 2024 under the GoodHeat brand, but I haven’t seen these here yet.

Today the company employs around 5,000 people worldwide, more than 1,000 of whom work in research and development. GoodWe reports a cumulative global installed inverter capacity of 100 GW.

The company currently has four production facilities in four locations with an annual production capacity of 35 GW for solar inverters and 2.1 GWh for batteries.

Country Manager Dean Williamson commented on the 15th anniversary and Australia’s role in GoodWe’s success:

“As GoodWe celebrates its 15th anniversary, we are very grateful to everyone who has been with us on this journey and to the Australian households and businesses who continue to trust us on their energy journey. We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store.”

As for the way forward:

“As our founder Daniel Huang shared on our 15th anniversary, the next chapter of smart energy lies in the integration of generation, grid, load, storage and intelligence,” the company said. “The strategy is to create an energy ecosystem that combines solar, storage, electrified loads and intelligent management, empowering energy consumers to become prosumers. Our zero-carbon demo factories, EcoSmart Homes and LEED Gold certified headquarters demonstrate what a truly smart, low-carbon future looks like. This is just the beginning!”

ESA All-In-One Home Battery: First Impressions

One of the company’s highlights this year was the launch of the new ESA all-in-one home battery system.

GoodWe recently launched the new ESA at All Energy Australia 2025 in Melbourne. SolarQuotes’ experienced in-house installer, Anthony Bennett, took a look at the new competitor as well as a number of other stackable battery systems at the event.

Anthony says:

“Well, we’ve taken some good ideas from the competition and combined them with our own innovations, such as simply angled the connectors to make the cable bends more sensible, making installation easier, cleaner and more reliable. There are pros and cons, but they’ve retained the series connection architecture, which means no gateway is required.”

It’s not all sunshine and roses: the inverter is recalled

Something that wasn’t as big of a highlight for the company in 2025 was a recall of certain GoodWe EHB series hybrid inverters and GE GEH series1 models sold for more than four years.

Affected online systems were addressed with a firmware fix prior to the official recall. All remaining offline systems have been/will be updated via the forced firmware upgrade once online.

The entire Australian experience

In general, GoodWe solar equipment has been well received in Australia, particularly in recent years, and is attractive to budget-conscious buyers looking for value for money (not in the literal sense of course).

When it comes to inverters, for example, you can save around $1200 by purchasing a GoodWe compared to a high-end brand like Fronius. However, since an inverter is the real workhorse of a solar system and the component most likely to fail first, spending more on an inverter can potentially result in a longer lifespan – and peace of mind.

Footnotes

  1. The company produced a line of GE-branded appliances to GE’s own specifications for a few years, but stopped doing so late last year.
