TYPES OF SOLAR PANELS: WHICH ONE IS FOR YOU?

With many solar panels on the market, how do you know which one is right for you?

The improvement in solar technology has resulted in a variety and wide range of solar cell technologies emerging in the marketplace. In the Philippines there are 2 main types of solar modules that are commonly offered by solar suppliers: the polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules. How do they differ from each other?

Polycrystalline solar modules

As derived from the word poly, the polycrystalline solar modules consist of several pieces of silicon that are mixed together to form a solar cell. Due to the manufacturing-related differences in the surface, polycrystalline solar modules give off a blue color. This may interest you : MOUNTING SOLAR ON ROOFS. Because they are made up of multiple silicon crystals, there is less space for electrons to move, making this type of panel less efficient compared to its counterparts in hot and low light conditions.

On the plus side, since they produce less waste material and are therefore definitely easier and easier to manufacture, the polycrystalline solar panels cost less and are a popular choice for budget conscious solar customers.

Monocrystalline solar modules

Monocrystalline solar modules are made from a single crystalline silicon that gives off its uniform, black appearance. These panels consist of pure cells, which makes them highly efficient even at higher temperatures or poor lighting conditions.

The manufacture of monocrystalline solar modules is more time-consuming and complex. It produces more waste material as each silicon is cut and trimmed into squares to make the famous cell shape we know. Therefore, it is more expensive compared to the polycrystalline solar panels

So what should you choose?

Both polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules have their own advantages and disadvantages. Read also : Three STEPS TO SOLAR: SIMPLE AND SIMPLE WITH SOLAR. Do you prefer the aesthetics of black and blue or panel efficiency? Would you like more energy- and space-saving solar modules or do you stick to your current budget and your financial possibilities?

While both modules differ in many respects and may address more of one factor than the other, polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules still serve their intended purpose of harvesting the solar energy for you and are guaranteed to produce a long life and 25 year output. Definitely a win-win return on investment in 5 years for a typical Solaric grid tie system.
