Trina Solar launches new line of Vertex modules

Trina Solar Co. Ltd. has presented a new generation of its Vertex module with a single-panel power of 670 W.

According to Dr. Zhang Yingbin, head of product strategy and marketing at Trina Solar, the 670 W Vertex features non-destructive cutting, high-density connections, multi-busbars (MBB) and other technologies – with low-voltage and high-voltage string power and other core functions. The MBB and the high-density connection improve the module efficiency up to 21.6%, while the non-destructive cutting developed by Trina Solar significantly reduces the risk of micro-cracks in cells and loss of performance.

"Trina Solar was driven by innovative, reliable quality and customer benefit," says Yingbin. "The Ultra High Power Vertex 670W reduces BOS costs and LCOE. This will help meet renewable energy goals and accelerate the pace of the PV industry to tackle the grid parity era."

Increasing the performance of each string is a key factor in reducing BOS costs. When introducing the new module, Yingbin stated that in large power plants (-20 ℃) ​​the 670 W Vertex has 28 modules on each string. Compared to other 500 W + high-performance modules in the industry, the 670 W Vertex module achieves an overall increase in output of up to 18,760 W per string, 34% more than the 500 W + modules. The 670W modules can reduce the non-silicon costs of silicon wafers and cells for the upstream supply chain – and the costs for trackers, pile foundations, cables and labor for those downstream.

For unpacking and installation, Trina Solar provides simple and easy to use auxiliary tools with standard configuration that can be used to support the box body to ensure safety throughout the process. Many empirical studies have shown that 670 W modules also support traditional installation methods. In addition, the number of modules can be reduced by approx. 24%, which leads to a reduction in overall installation costs of 5-7%.

By the end of 2021, 210 modules are expected to make up 120 GW in the solar industry. According to Trina Solar, 210 modules will account for 70% to 80% of total deliveries this year.
