Maxeon Solar introduces Maxeon Air PV modules

Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd. markets its new Maxeon Air technology platform.

As a result of five years of research, development and testing, Maxeon Air enables the production of frameless, thin and light solar modules with an efficiency and performance equivalent to standard solar modules. Maxeon Air panels will be presented in selected projects in Europe in the second half of the year. General product availability is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022.

"The Maxeon Air technology platform continues our 35-year legacy of innovation in solar panel technology and again demonstrates the ability of our research and development team to create disruptive technologies," said Jeff Waters, CEO of Maxeon Solar Technologies. “The solar industry has been using glass superstrate sheets almost exclusively for almost 50 years. As the size of solar modules has increased – and the cost of solar cells has decreased dramatically – the cost of shipping, installing, and assembling large glass panels has become a relatively larger part of the total system cost. With Maxeon Air technology, we can now develop products that reduce these costs while opening up entirely new market opportunities, such as: B. Commercial roofs with low loads. "

Maxeon Air solar modules are ultra-light, sturdy and fire-certified modules that can be glued directly onto the roof without the need for shelves or other mounting systems. The first product launch with this technology is aimed at installation on roofs that are not designed for the weight of conventional solar systems. In Europe alone, the company estimates that there is an unsupervised annual market for low-load roofs of over 4 GW.

Maxeon Air solar panels have several innovative features including:

  • Lightweight and Adaptable: No metal frame or heavy glass is used in the top, and the adhesive mounting system further reduces weight as there is no shelf required.
  • Peel-and-stick design: The factory-integrated adhesive layer enables the solar panel to be installed directly on the roof surface without shelves, anchors or ballast. This reduces installation time and minimizes operational disruptions during installation.
  • Energy yield: Maxeon IBC solar cells are the most efficient on the market. The resulting Maxeon Air solar module with an efficiency of 20.9% in combination with a low power temperature coefficient, shadow tolerance and a broad spectral response delivers maximum energy yield on a limited roof area.
  • Certified: Maxeon Air solar modules have been developed according to the highest safety standards and certified for fire resistance. They are designed to withstand the stresses of installation and long-term weather conditions.
