Mass Megawatts performs comparative monitoring evaluation for solar energy methods
Mass Megawatts Wind Power Inc. has begun construction of two solar power systems to demonstrate the benefits of the company's patent-pending solar tracker technology. The two systems will be built at the same location in Worcester, Massachusetts. They will be identical except that one system will contain the company's Solar Tracker technology while the other will not be used. The performance of these systems is compared to show that the Solar Tracker offers a 30 percent improvement in power generation with a cost increase of less than 10%.
Each solar power system contains six modules with a nominal output of 300 W. The solar power components in each system are identical, including the date of purchase, manufacturer, and model numbers. The units are built next to each other so that the environmental conditions are also the same. The power generation of both units is monitored and compared to conclusively show the positive effects of the solar tracking technology.
Solar Tracker is designed to automatically adjust the position of the solar panels throughout the day so that they face the sun directly as it moves from east to west. This can significantly increase the energy production level of a solar power system and at the same time shorten the payback period for solar power investments.
The Mass Megawatts Solar Tracker uses an inexpensive framework that gives stability to the overall system while improving the level of energy production. This reduces the number of solar modules that are required to generate the nominal output.
