AES Indiana Acquires New Pike County Solar Venture

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation, is acquiring and building a 250 MW solar and 180 MWh energy storage facility in Pike County, Indiana. The Petersburg Solar Project, connected to the existing AES Indiana power plant in Petersburg, will supply 45,000 households with electricity during peak hours.

AES Indiana is acquiring the project from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, with NextEra Energy Resources developing and building the project. The project requires approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). If approved, it should be operational by May 1, 2024 at the latest. Last month, AES Indiana received IURC approval to acquire the Hardy Hills 195 MW solar project in Clinton County, Ind.

"The Petersburg Solar Project is a win-win solution that adds new technologies to our power generation fleet while maintaining the economic benefits here in Indiana," said Kristina Lund, President and CEO of AES Indiana. "We are excited to develop our longstanding partnership with Pike County, a community that has helped support and advance the needs of Indianapolis for 50 years."

"Pike County welcomes the new investment from the Petersburg Solar Project and the various benefits the project brings, including new construction jobs and new tax revenue for the county," said Ashley Willis, director of economic development for Pike County Economic Development Corporation. “Our community includes new businesses, industries and job creation. Clean energy is a critical infrastructure for the future and Pike County is proud to be part of this exciting industrial sector. "
