Australian Solar Silicon: An outstanding project

The Australian company Stellar PV recently achieved a government benefit for the investigation of the potential for a local silicon and wafer system for world class. Learn more about the company and its plans for the creation of these decisive materials for the production of Solar Panels.

What does outstanding PV do?

The company has made it available for the development of a 2 GW facility for the production of silicon vaccinations and wafers in the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct in Queensland, about 40 kilometers south of Townsville, for the development of a 2 GW facility.

Solar modules consist of cells made with wafers that are made from thinly cut parchots.

The company hopes to put the facility into operation in 2028 until the regulatory permits are viewed.

Stellar PV will use the latest progress in the Czochralski method.

“With the integration of automation and KI, Stellar PV controls the most important parameters such as temperature, category and rotary speed in real time,” said the company recently. “This improves process stability, reduces defects and improves the overall output. The result is high pureity, even bars that enable the production of premium solar waffles and form the basis for high-performance solar cells.”

How much money did Stellar get?

At the beginning of this month, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (Arena) Stellar PV $ 4.7 million to support a feasibility study in connection with the facility. The grant was part of 45.5 million US dollars, which the arena as part of the 1 -billion dollar Sunshot program was announced by the Albanese government with which the local Solar -PV manufacturing industry is to be supported.

No new children on the block

During a very young company (founded in 2023), Stellar PV is led by an industry veteran.

Ted Szpitalak (picture above) was a founding member of the Australian research team, which developed Perc1 Solar Cell Technology in the 1980s, which dominated many years later2. The team was led by Professor Martin Green, who is sometimes referred to as the “father of photovoltaics”.

Szpitalak also worked in the Solar Energy Research Center (unsw?) Szpitalak in the 1980s and 1990s and Yang then helped to establish another Chinese solar panel manufacturer. And the grass has not grown under his feet since then.

Where does the polysilicon come from?

In order to produce IGOT and Wafer, a high -quality polysilicium is required, which is obtained from quartz – something that Australia has a lot. In Australia, however, there are still no solar polysilicone production systems in Australia.

This could soon change the announcements of the arena financing also included $ 5 million for Soltzartz to examine a polysilicone plant with low emissions (also at Lansdown), and $ 1.3 million in energy to examine polysilic production with low emissions at AGLS HUNT Energy Hub in New South Wales.

So there may be the potential that Stern PV uses Australian polysilicon from the start, but there would be many moving parts that are connected with it.

This makes solar cells produced, and on this side there is already a company that is good on the road: Sundrive.

A fully Australian solar panel soon?

All elements seem to be together so that a really Australly produced solar panel 3 is possible.

But just because they can do something does not always mean that they should, and the success for the financed companies is by no means guaranteed. In 2022, however, CSIRO released its Australian silicon action plan, in which the economic and other advantages of investing in an integrated silicon and solar zell -local supply chain are listed.
