Chinese inverter manufacturer Sungrow has inaugurated a 7GW expansion of its solar inverter factory in India, increasing the facility’s production capacity to 10GW.
The expansion should enable the manufacturer to serve customers in different market segments.
The expansion of Sungrow’s plant comes at a time when the Indian government is pushing to increase the country’s domestic solar production while reducing imports of PV solar modules.
“I appreciate this move by Sungrow as well as its long-term development plan that can help achieve our ambitious renewable energy mission. I hope that Sungrow can continue to lead this market and set the benchmark for the Indian solar industry through the success of the Make in India initiative,” said Bhagwanth Khuba, India’s Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy.
The company also took the opportunity to launch some of its products in the Indian market, such as the SG350HX with a maximum output power of 352 kW and support for bifacial PV modules and the “1+X” modular inverter.
Recently, the Production Linked Incentive was expanded to add more than 40 GW of additional cell and module manufacturing in India.
Last year, India added more than 10 GW of solar PV, reaching a total solar capacity of 49 GW.
Starting next month, the country will introduce a basic tariff of 40% on solar panels and 25% on solar cells.
