Trina receives “Eastern Oscar” for Vertex S+ solar modules

Trinasolar’s Vertex S+ solar panels available in Australia have won another major design award to join the company’s trophy cabinet – this one in Japan.

The Good Design Award (G Mark), established in 1957, describes good design as:

“It’s not just about the beauty of an object, but about the ability to create greater prosperity for people, society and the future.”

We have had almost 10 kW Trina Vertex S+ modules on our roof over the past few years.

While I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’re *nice* to look at, when it comes to solar panels, I think they look pretty good. The beauty is what they do – harness the sun’s energy and save us money on electricity bills; and they have succeeded very well so far.

This award is not the first that the Vertex S+ has received – the series has already received a German Design Award and an International Design Excellence Award (USA). The company is delighted with its recent recognition.

“Trinasolar is proud of this recent success in the face of fierce competition,” said Cao Yunduan, the company’s Head of Global Branding and Marketing. “Our Vertex S+ Series modules represent a pinnacle of aesthetic innovation and performance in the solar industry, meeting the increasing needs of global customers for solar modules that are not only efficient and highly reliable, but also aesthetically pleasing.”

More about Trina’s Vertex S+

Trina continued to develop the Vertex S+ series since we installed our solar panels (415 watt panels). At that time, the most powerful Vertex+ available was 425W. Today, the Monofacial series is available in wattages from 425 to 460W.

Some specifications:

  • N-type i-TOPCon cells
  • Double glass
  • Black frame
  • Module conversion efficiencies between 21.3% and 23%
  • Dimensions: 1762 × 1134 × 30mm
  • Temperature coefficient: -0.29%/°C
  • Weight: 21kg
  • 25 year product guarantee
  • 30-year performance guarantee (maximum 1% deterioration in the first year, maximum 0.4% thereafter – performance output of 87.4% in the 30th year).
  • Data sheet here.

Although they are slightly larger than our panels in terms of dimensions, the latest Vertex S+ panels weigh half a kilo less.

Another attractive aspect is the pricing of the Vertex S+. The money we saved from buying a high-end brand went towards purchasing an 8kW Fronius Primo inverter, which is quite expensive. While premium panels may have better efficiency and temperature coefficients, on stinking hot days – and heat is the enemy of solar panels – we don’t notice any impact given the inverter capacity. And thanks to the active cooling, the inverter copes very well with the heat; However, the fan gets a bit loud (the newer Fronius Gen24 are quieter).

Trina equipment is very popular in Australia and the company has a longstanding presence locally. Trina solar panel reviews here on SQ have received an overall average of 4.8 stars based on 2,385 customer reviews and 4.9 stars based on 366 reviews in the last 12 months.

Speaking of awards, Trina also performed consistently well in the SolarQuotes Installers Choice Awards. This year it received a gold gong for the best solar panels in 2024 (best value for money category – for the fourth year in a row), bronze in the “money is no object” category and silver for support.
