According to Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), a subsidiary of American Electric Power (AEP), the St. Joseph Solar Farm is now working with the University of Notre Dame to produce zero-emission renewable energy.
After a brief delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction work on the St. Joseph solar park began in July 2020. The construction of the solar park took more than 100 workers eight months and more than 75,000 man hours. The facility is located on Indiana Toll Road, east of South Bend, Indiana, eight miles from the University of Notre Dame campus.
Notre Dame will advance its sustainability goals by committing to support 40% of the Renewable Energy Allowances (RECs), which represent the clean energy produced by the solar park. St. Joseph is the largest solar company for Notre Dame that worked on the major project.
