Can you add a battery to your existing solar? Here you can find out how to tell it
With all the interest that the brilliant new cheaper battery program from Australia was created, we have seen that inquiries for everything have increased. One of the most common questions is: Do I have to replace my existing solar system to get a battery? Here you can find out whether it is possible to stick to your legacy solar and how to add a battery, if so.
As an early user, the Australians are in a new leader, whereby the Battery Battery leads discount to a rethinking, rejig or a complete exchange of their existing solar energy.
In Australia there are 4.136 million solar power systems and to be honest, about 12 million different options for adding a battery. If you get the right answer to your place, a trained expert visit before the installation day is.
A call center sale from Numpty, which an air builder uses with aerial absorption, simply cannot evaluate a battery location, existing solar cables or your switchboard.
Save good investments
Roughly speaking, I noticed $ 12,000, 12-year-old solar systems that were used for $ twelve. Realistically, they will sell for half.
While Panels, which originally cost 1,000 US dollars, are really not wasted because prices are falling, many have proven to be poor.
If your cheap basic system was, it is probably not worth a saving, especially if the Array Prime real estate takes up.
If you recognize these units, then your probably garbage is probably.
However, if it works, the greatest value in your old solar power system is simple that it is already there. In most cases, the paid workforce, which is required to remove and/or reinstall, is more worth the used gait.
This arrangement was never good at first, especially given the problems of LG Chem.
I have always said that the high -quality devices and installation are the best value because it is reliable in the long term. If the Australian work rates for installation are a large part of their effort, it is a fool to track your roof or cheap batteries on your wall.
What about new systems
If your solar is only a few years old, there is a good chance that you can simply add a battery, but like every solar system, you need an inverter where things can be difficult.
Regardless of whether it is located or neighboring, the main function of the inverter is to transform the DC current from solar or battery into alternating current, which is useful for your house and the wider network.
With the roof solar in the Australia’s largest generator after installed capacity, however, AEMO rules, so that inverter must react to external network controls.
The Battery Battery discount demands inverters and batteries that are approved on the Clean Energy Council, but do not worry if your is not displayed, it may have only fallen off. As long as it has not been listed, a legacy is sufficient.
There is a time when such a salad with cheap equipment may have to be uniform.
Great responsibility comes with great power
Regardless of whether it is an emergency backstop or flexible exports, we occasionally have to absorb a lid for our roots renewable success.
Therefore, new systems have to have a consistent internet connection or with a standard -Fix -Fix export limit, which, of course, does not help anyone.
Depending on the network rules, you can apply all of your devices to the latest standards. While Victoria enables existing systems to be grandfather, SA wants a closer control and unfortunately creates more e-waste.
For example, if you have a loyal old SMA workers, it will probably get a ball, but at least Fronius has ethics to do its last ten production years RetroCompatibe with a simple firmware update.
The other option is an intelligent device like Catchcontrol with quick and dirty shutdown so that old devices behave.
Without external controls, these incredibly reliable SMA -sunny boys are all outdated.
Inverter capacity counts
There is no uniform answer with 17 different electricity networks, but in general you can connect 10 kW inverter generation capacity to every phase of your offer.
For some this is a blanket. Others allow another 10 kW battery inverter (20 kW in total), but still have a comprehensive 30 kva location limit.
A hybrid inverter can count both for the generator and the battery inverter both for the permissible sums, or you can get even more capacity with a network examination and a special agreement.
What are the options?
Stupid fixed export limit values have been the standard for years, so that cheap installations simply use a 5kW inverter instead of a more intelligent, larger system with a customer consumption meter to raise a limit.
So let’s assume that you have a single-phase supply, a 5 kW inverter with 6.6 kW solar. Here are a few scenarios:
Add a 5 kW hybrid inverter with a battery and DC couple more solar
- As a result, you fill 10 kW maximum permissible
- Use your existing inverter (and monitoring if you keep the same brand)
- More solar yield
- More solar also moves the existing inverter1
- Black starting capacity if there is a longer failure
- Can lead your legacy solar as a minigrid, so it helps in a daily failure
- The security capacity is limited to 5 kW – a lower surge rating, therefore only the backup for important circuits.
Add an AC-coupled battery
- More than 5 kW top capacity
- Simply stands between your existing system and the network.
- Enable the Legacy Solar inverter Other Panels.2
- Not a black start – you need the network to relax when the battery goes flat.
Add a hybrid inverter with a battery that is configured as an AC-coupled system
- More than 5 kW top capacity
- Use your existing inverter (and monitoring if you keep the same brand)
- Offers more overvoltage rating for “Whole Home” backup
- Permitted under the 10 kW ceiling
- No black start
Replace your 5 -kW inverter with a 10 -kW unit
- Can use the existing solar parray as input
- Add another 8 to 13 kW solar on the roof
- Black start capable
- Excellent surge rating for “Whole Home” backup.
If you have a sun protection system, this can be considered for Sungrow’s Trade-Up program.
For 3 -phase customers
The range of new hybrid rangers, which are available in 10, 12, 15 and more kilowatts, mean that they do not have to wire the entire position again in order to have connected things with a single-phase backup circuit.
If you have a phase solar, a 3-phase battery hybrid is out of the question, but the expansion of things in the phases can be a problem.
Get professional help
I now have shorter hair, probably because I have torn it over ever more complex energy systems.
The best way to get a package that plays well together. Usually this means solar, monitoring, battery, EV charging and hot water control of the same manufacturing ecosystem.
However, there are systems that can be made from components and integrated together. The main thing that you need is an experienced installation program to connect all network approval agents, cross the technical T shirts, to end the wires and carry out the tests.
Click here, add some notes to your existing system and we will find you someone who is exactly the ticket.
