Dunkirk – A solar project that was first proposed four years ago on about 20 hectares of free land of County Fair organization was approved for tax incentives.
During the meeting of the Chautauqua County industrial development agency, the board members approved a payment instead of tax agreements for a 5 -megawatt -Solar -Sarray project, which is to be built in Dunkirk Town in the 10653 Brigham Road.
The County GIS page is a separate package of land that is used annually during the County Fair and is not connected to the Central Avenue or Waldorff Road.
Rosemarie Strandburg with the county of Ida said that they had received the application from Solar Liberty for the first time in 2021.
The construction of the project is expected to cost 6.5 million US dollars.
Strandburg said the project was “silent” at the end of 2021. It was bought by Catalyze in 2025.
Matt Effler with Catalyze visited the County Ida meeting in a practical way and discussed the project.
He said Solar Liberty would build the solar project, but his company will be the owner.
“The possession of Chautauqua County and Fair Association, which was taxable from basic taxes before this project, is based on this project, so that the additional pilot costs and income from this type are a bonus that did not pay any tax on property,” said Effler.
Effler said they had already received a special use permit from the city of Dunkirk.
Catalyze is involved in a number of other solar projects in the district.
During the discussion, Mark Geise, Chief Executive Officer from Ida, said that Catalyze does not yet have to pay his fees for the other projects to the district.
Effler said he shouldn’t have to pay for the fees until a project is closed.
Geise wanted to see the fee payments earlier. “We have the feeling that we are lined up and spend the effort all the time. It was years ago,” he said.
Other solar projects in which catalysis is involved are Portland, Busti and Ashville.
Milan Tyler, a County Ida lawyer, recommended that the Ida Board of Directors Geise Geise to negotiate the fees with a catalysis when she voted on the approving resolutions that did it.
A schedule for the construction was not provided at the session.
