Victoria plans to abolish minimum tariffs on solar supplies

It has been reported that the Victorian government will no longer determine minimum solar feed in tariff (fit) tariffs, which brings it into harmony with several other countries.

Currently, the minimum sets are determined annually by the state’s Essential Services (ESC). For the 2024/25 financial year, the minimum flat rate feed-in tariff in Victoria is 3.3 cents per kilowatt hour that was exported to the network. There are also minimum minimum for temporary tariff options.

But in January the ESC proposed a flat rate of only 0.04 C/kWh for 2025/26 – basically nothing. Between 0 cents and 7.5 cents were proposed for temporary rates, with 0 cents covering most of the daily department of the day of the day. After reviewing the submissions for your draft decision, a final decision for 2025/26 to February 28 is to be published. Unless this reported change must be entered in advance.

I think it doesn’t make much point that a minimum tariff for the feeder tariff will be determined in the future if it will be pretty much zero for the foreseeable future. But as in other jurisdiction in which a minimum is not set (Südost-QLD, NSW, Act, SA), electricity retailers can continue to offer payments-and many elsewhere do it. Of course, this does not guarantee that retailers in Victoria will follow the example.

The main reason for the continued discount of seizures in Victoria is on a flood of solar energy exports online during the day – especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. At times, this increasingly drives wholesale prices in a negative area. As already mentioned, this is good news, as this means lower electricity prices for retail in addition to reducing emissions than you could otherwise do. benefit everyone.

The plan for the abolition of minimum tariffs reported on age should be announced yesterday by Victoria’s Energy and Climate Change Minister Lily d’Ambrosio. But nothing has appeared on the press release page of the Vic government at the time of writing.

While it appears an official announcement on the abolition of minimum foresets that do not yet have to be made, Minister D’Ambrosio threw the success of the state’s solar home program on Sunday. The scheme was a driving force behind the absorption of solar collectors, house batteries and energy -efficient hot water systems in the state.

According to the minister’s office, more than 300,000 solar modules were installed as part of the program – but it is a safe bet that means their office from Solar Panel *Systems *. 2024 was a record year for solar houses with more than 78,000 solar modules (systems), hot water systems and batteries.

As part of the Solar Homes program, authorized households can access a discount of $ 1,400 for the installation of solar modules (in addition to the national discount) and other interest -free loans in the amount of $ 1,400. There is also a maximum of $ 8,800 interest -free loans to buy a battery (repaid per month over 4 years) and a discount of up to $ 1,000 dollars for a hot water system11.

In view of the miserable feed -in tariffs, maximizing the self -use of solar energy has become even more important. The loan offer for home batteries can therefore attract a little more attention. At the beginning of this month the Solar Victoria Battery Loans showed a record of how many were left for 2024/25. This was 1,254, as on February 4. For some reason, the remaining loan numbers had been removed when I checked this morning.

In addition to the Solar Homes initiative, the long-standing program for Victorian energy improvements also offers discounts for devices ranging from heat pump heating systems to cooking tops. According to Minister d’Ambrosio’s office, the program has saved the Victorians $ 440 million for energy-efficient devices so far.

A summary of everything that is offered in Victoria (along the information for other states and areas) can be found on the SQS discounts and subsidies. And wherever you are in Australia, you can compare solar feed-in tariffs in your neck of the forest with the electricity plan comparison tool from Solarquotes.

  1. One of the admission criteria for a Solarhäuser Hot Water Incentive is that the property has not yet received a solar battery discount as part of the program.
