Mythen-Busting Australia’s Solar Panel discount

Find out how Australia’s solar panel discount works and how to avoid heartache, headache and hip pocket pain by recognizing Shonky ads.

We recently reported that the battery adventure ads will be in the everyday place in misleading battery ads. But dodgy solar panel discount advertising took much longer and unfortunately continues because it works.

First, it is important to understand what the solar discount is and what is not.

How the sun discount works

While it has been referred to as a discount for many years and the term has been stuck, you usually get a discount after * after a purchase. In practice, this incentive is actually a preliminary discount on a qualified purchase of solar power systems.

The subsidy takes place as part of the small renewable energy programs (SRES) in Australia-one government initiative to promote investments in renewable energies. If you install eligible renewable systems (in this case, solar energy on the roof), small technology certificates (STCS) can be created and sold, and their value fluctuates under the market conditions.

The number of STCs that accompany a qualified system is based on:

  • The size of the system – its solar panel capacity in Kilowatts (KW).
  • The year in which it was installed.
  • Where it was installed in Australia.

While system owners can sell STCs themselves, a little work is involved. Instead, almost everyone decides to assign the installation program to the installation program or a registered agent to the installation program, and this value minus administrative fees is provided as a preliminary discount. If you see prices for solar systems, this value is already taken into account.

Finn Peacock, founder of Solarquotes, explains this in more detail in the video above. Or you can read more about it in our solar panel discount guide.

But even after all the years in which the discount was available, we still see how people fall victim to misleading advertising.

The discount doesn’t end soon “

Despite everything that some intrusive sellers and advertising tells them, the solar discount will not soon disappear.

However, the STC scheme is advertised and ends in 2031. The number of STCs that a system is entitled to drop at the beginning of each year. You can see this effect by making the Solarquotes STC pollner.

The good news, however, is that the STC acceptance was generally compensated for by the costs for the acceptance of solar systems. Therefore, a system does not have to be pushed and only based on these misleading ads.

Free solar based on the postcode is BS

There was also a spread of Shonky Solar ads – both online and offline – and claims to receive the discount, means that you will receive the solar system for free and you qualify for how you live.

First, all Australian postcodes are justified – it doesn’t matter where they live in Australia.

Second, these systems are not free. What these ads normally offer is a cheap, shitty system for “no money in advance”. However, this only means that you borrow thousands of dollars to buy the system. They make weekly or monthly payments that often make this purchase one of the most expensive solar systems that you can buy.

Finns seen offers for systems that would normally cost 6,000 US dollars, with the repayments to be added to 22,000 US dollars.

Misleading solar ads a warning sign

If a company uses misleading advertising regarding the discount, it can be a large red flag about its approach to solar and after-sales support in general. Even if the company uses a good solar panel and inverter brands, the best equipment (and your home) exists through sloppy installation and possibly dangerous abbreviations.

For example, cracked tiles can also appear on their roof with the most careful installers. But a good installer tells you what happened and take measures to properly remedy the situation1. A Shonky installer can simply ignore it or glue a broken tile together with Glob of Silicone and hope for the best without telling them. Only so that the bond fails down the route. Stormy and electrical connections in poor quality can also be a risk, which leads to a risk of fire that could achieve catastrophic results.

A poor installation may not have any influence immediately. If the problems arise, the company may have disappeared, or it can be very difficult to get a solution to a situation that should not occur primarily. In the meantime, she and her hip pocket suffer from a below -average or faulty system, not to mention the stress associated with the attempt to solve it.

Finn says:

“Based on how misleading these ads are, I have no confidence in the quality of the installers who would recommend if you have submitted your data.”

If you want to avoid being a mine field for your installation when choosing a company, you should use our free quotation service, which is supported by the Solarquotes Good INTALLER guarantee.

Footnot

  1. It is always a good idea to have replacement tiles on the installation day and know the installer that you have it.
