House electrification after the choice: solar batteries and beyond

Democracy sausages were devoured, ballot papers were occupied and (mostly) counted, and people spoke. Discover what a further round of work is available for the support of home electrification in Australia.

Cheaper house batteries are going

The Home Solar Battery scene is Australia will be very, very busy.

At the beginning of the last month, Labor announced a state discount for home batteries if it is brought back to office. The program for renewable energies (SRES) as part of the SRES (RENEABLE Energy Systems) offers the program of cheap home batteries a preliminary discount of around $ 3701 per kilowatt hour of use capacity (less administrative fees and fees) for justified house batteries that are either added with new or existing solar systems.

The good news is batteries that have been entitled to the discount since the announcement in April (provided that other criteria are met), as long as they are not switched on before July 1 – the official start date for the system. There should also be the ability to “stack” the discount with State Home Battery incentives, but there are some devils in detail that still needs to be worked through.

According to the Clean Energy Council, around 186,000 home systems were installed throughout Australia by the end of 2024. Labor expects more than a million new batteries to be installed by 2030.

The program is put under pressure on electricity invoices for everyone, not only installed households, the solar modules and a battery. This is achieved by reducing the grid question at peak times when the pricing of the wholesale is most expensive.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen Promotion of the cheaper program for the cheaper home batteries from Labor

More investment money for the CEFC

The re-elected Albanese government has previously committed itself to an expansion of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation of $ 2 billion.

The 2 billion US dollars are intended for the general portfolio of the CEFC, which includes the generation and storage and storage of renewable energies, electric vehicles and infrastructure investments as well as capital for the asset financing programs of the CEFC programs for households, companies and farmers.

More support for Shepi

Another 500 million US dollars for Labor’s Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (Shepi) increasing investments to a total of 800 million US dollars. Shepis focus is on reducing energy bills and emissions for tenants of social apartments through improvements such as shades and insulation, energy -efficient devices, solar panels and batteries.

National Vehicle Exchange Standards Enforcement

From July 1, 2025, the compliance requirements will be enforced by the NVVE regulatory authority, which begins to issue penalties for manufacturers that violate the standard. The goal of the NVVE is to improve the selection of new fuel, lower or zero emission cars (mainly electric vehicles) in Australia and to lower the country’s transport emissions. The increased availability also exposes the pressure on the EV prices down.

Australia was one of the last OECD countries (Russia the other) without mandatory vehicles, a situation in which we were a garbage dump for vehicles with high emissions.

EV edge tax committees

Existing exemptions for marginal power tax (FBT) for electric vehicles that enable Australians to lease a beneficiary by their employer without paying the tax. Depending on the leasing agreements, this incentive can also apply to the purchase and installation of EV Home Charger devices.

National license program for electricians

In the 2025–26 budget, 900 million US dollars were planned for the national productivity fund in order to promote the framework reforms of national competitive policy (NCP), including the harmonization of electrol licenses in all of Australia. In this way, electrical workers can work in the states instead of applying for separate licenses and paying additional fees.

Beyond electrification at home

Further broader energy management programs include:

  • New wiring of the nation – This program is investing in new transmission lines in order to deliver renewable energies to deliver cities, cities and regional municipalities. With the financing of the CEFC.
  • Community Energy Upgrades Fund: $ 100 million for energy improvements in community facilities such as heat pumps, energy-efficient lighting and battery storage.
  • Future made in Australia: The aim is to make Australia a superpower for renewable energies by supporting the local production of solar cells, batteries and other clean energy technology.
  • Energy Bill discount: The discount for the energy bill of 150 US dollars will continue for all households in two quarterly installments of 75 US dollars at a price of USD 1.8 billion.

The work is still obliged to achieve 82% renewable energies by 2030.

“In 2022, the Australian people voted to react to climate change,” said Chris Bowen, Minister of Climate Change and Energy, who retained the seat of McMahon). “After three years of progress, they continued in 2025.”

When the choice had gone in the other direction

If the national elections were different in 2025 and the coalition took over the management of the country:

  • The program was not supported by the coalition program.
  • FTB EV tax breaks for Australians would have been scrapped.
  • Expensive gas would have played a larger role in the Australia’s energy -future.
  • The coalition’s poorly conceived nuclear power plan would have come into play, which would also have extended the lifespan of the generation of coal in Australia.
  • The 26 billion dollar program for the future in the Australia program would have been enlarged.
  • The 19 billion US dollars that re -wired the nation program; gone.
  • The Net Zero Economy Agency; dissolved.
  • NEve frame for vehicle fabric (NVVE), but the punishments fall, which remained toothless.

… and that was just a few of the essential electrifification -related elements in the crosshair of the coalition.

So what for the coalition now?

Since Peter Dutton lost his offer for Prime Minister and also the seat of Dickson, which he held for 24 years, the liberals will look for a new leader. Angus Taylor, Sussan Ley, Andrew Hastie and Dan Tehan are among the names to take over the coat of liberal leadership. All four have shown a consistent form of anti-newcomers-regardless of what they can say.

Footnot

  1. Like the Solar Panel discount, the battery subsidy will decrease every year from January to 2030, according to which it is no longer available.
