Fronius returns back in solar batteries with reserva

It is between the drinks for a while, but Austria’s Fronius is again in the production of the home batteries. Here is a first look at the reserva.

Fronius is best known for its inverters, but the company once offered a home energy storage system called Fronius Solar Battery.

The basic model was 4.5 kWh, but was expanded to a capacity of 12 kWh (9.6 kWh usable) and offered a continuous performance assessment of 4 kW with the 12kWh configuration. It was not cheap (“soothingly expensive”, as SQS Anthony would say), could only be installed inside and used for three -phase houses. In view of its restrictions, it was not a big surprise when the company stopped offering it.

Fronius Reserva unveiled

The Fronius Reserva was officially launched last week and is a DC-coupled high-voltage battery that offers usable capacities between 6.3 kWh and 15.8 kWh. The basic unit is expanded by adding up to 5 stackable modules of 3.15 kWh each. The cells in the modules are lithium iron phosphate (LFP/LIFEO4) chemistry. Up to four battery values (also known as “stacks”) can be connected in parallel in order to achieve a maximum storage capacity of 63 kWh.

In contrast to the Fronius Solar battery, the reserva can also be used for a single-phase house and is compatible with Fronius hybrid interrichmenter such as the Symo/Primo gene24 plus, but not with the SYMO hybrid. The compatibility diagram here indicates that the Primo Gen24 Plus (single phases) is only compatible with reserva 6.3 and 9.5. During the Symo Gen24 Plus (three -phases) up to 15.8.

The company says that the reserva backup current and black start is able. A Fronius -Backup controller and a safety switch are required to enable automatic backup circuit.

The reserva has an IP65 input rating, which means that it can be installed outside (in “protected areas”) and indoors. The system has an operating temperature range from -20 ° C to 55 ° C between 860 x 780 x 176 mm -1.610 x 780 x 176 mm, depending on the number of modules in a tower; So it’s a pretty slim battery. The weights range from 85 kg to 187 kg.

With regard to the country’s manufacture, this is not specified on the landing page data sheet, brochure or website. Fronius equipment is usually produced in Austria, but that does not necessarily mean that it is the case with the reserva.

The reserva is monitored via Fronius Solar.web, in which all Fronius device monitoring is displayed. The company says that data is only stored on European servers, which is particularly important elsewhere that data is stored.

A longer guarantee

The company’s original battery only had a 5-year guarantee while the reserva is 10 years.

According to Fronius CSO Harald Scherleitner:

“Duration is particularly important for us at Fronius. We therefore guarantee that the Fronius Reserva will still deliver at least 80 percent of its usable energy after ten years after the guarantee begins. “

I have not yet seen a guarantee document to check the finer details, but 80% at the end of the age of 10 are pretty good. With many manufacturers only 60% – 70%.

I asked Fronius whether/when the reserva will be available in Australia and updates this post when further information is available. Approximately pricing is not known – but the Reserva battery is probably also “soothingly expensive”.

I like Fronius Gear and have a Primo -Snapinverter (from the expression) and a Wattpilot EV charger. They do what it says on the can and reliably. Although I did not experience any “wow” when reading about the reserva, it is not inappropriate that it should be the same that it should be the same.

The reserva is not the only battery that is compatible with Fronius’ Hybrid interrichment. For example, there are also BYDS Battery Box Premium HVS/HVM. Although the HVS series no longer seems to be available.
