Bunnings starts solar and battery system subscriptions “
The Australian hardware and household giants -Bunnings extends its activities in the home electrification arena and supports a new brand that offers solar energy and battery packages on subscription or can be bought directly.
The “Zelora” packages were initially only developed for customers of Newcastle and Metropolitan Sydney in cooperation with Intellihub.
Intellihub was founded in 2018 and is probably best known for the provision of measuring devices and services for dozens of individual energy dealers in Australia and New Zealand. To date, the company has delivered around 2.8 million intelligent meters. Under this agreement with rabbits, Intellihub delivers the Zelora solar and battery systems to install, manage and support Zelora systems.
“Many customers find the electrification complex for the home and may not be aware of the advantages they can offer,” said Ryan Baker, Chief Operating Officer from Bunning. “Zelora was developed to simplify the customer battery and solar options for customers in a cost -effective way.”
Zelora is a brand of Bunnings used by Intellihub under license.
What does a Zelora package cost?
However, the following prices for the various solar and battery packages on July 23, 2025 are the comments below the table.
package | Small | medium | Large | X-Large | XX large |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Solar capacity | 3.96 kW | 6.6 kW | 8.8 kW | 10.56 kW | 13.2 kW |
Battery capacity | 7.8 kWh | 10.4 kWh | 13 kWh | 15.6 kWh | 23.4 kWh |
Monthly sub. (Out of) | $ 112 | $ 136 | $ 157 | $ 174 | $ 202 |
Minimum costs (10 years) | $ 15,058 | $ 18.284 | $ 21.108 | 23,393 USD | 27,157 USD |
Buy directly | $ 11.159 | $ 13,982 | $ 16.268 | $ 18.016 | $ 21,376 |
Notes:
- The pricing includes standard installation, state discounts and a CEFC discount 2 for the subscription plan for real estate worth less than $ 2.5 million.
- The monthly subscription fee increases by 2.5% per year (taken into account in the above table over 10 years in minimum costs).
- Outright Price only applies to hardware and installation and does not include Zelora monitoring and optimization services.
- Only solar and battery packages are also available.
- Additional costs are associated with the necessary upgrades such as a switchboard upgrade.
- There can be additional costs based on authorization criteria for state discounts and CEFC discount as well as the real estate-specific installation requirements (e.g. two-story houses).
There is a significant difference between the total costs within the framework of the subscription model compared to the purchase of a system – 27% to 35% more depending on the package.
One difference between the two is that the subscription package also includes Zelora monitoring and “Smart Energy Optimization”, which, according to Zelora, analyzes the electricity consumption patterns of the household and proves the battery at optimal times to achieve the best savings. However, the battery (see below) also contains its own native applications that cover these functions.
The deposit for systems as part of the Zelora subscription plan is 2 months, which also covers the first 2 months of subscription. For customers who choose to buy, the down payment is 10% of the total price.
What hardware contain the packages?
The Zelora Solar and Solar/Battery packages consist of:
Another guarantee article is the processing. That is 5 years.
What happens after the 10 years?
According to the Zelora website, ownership will be transferred to the customer at the end of the contract. Up to this point, the solar and battery system is owned by Intellihub. It is worth noting that the insurance company is left to the homeowner and that house insurance is required to install a Zelora system.
If the subscription is canceled before the 10 years, the payment sentence is proportional to the remaining hardware and installation costs. If a Zelora customer sells his house before the end of the 10 years, you can pay the contract or transfer the rest of the contract to the new owner.
Is Zelora a lot?
As already mentioned, the additional costs of the subscription model are considerable compared to the direct purchase, and a good solar/battery installation is more than just the components used. The installation of quality plays a major role, as well as the support after the sale, which can still be seen.
We will see what the feedback is as soon as some of these systems have been installed and have been executed for some time. Hopefully it is a smooth rollout than for Bunning’s recent switch to the Heimat-EV chargers, about which those from solar quotes in home installer Anthony Bennett had some concerns.
It is also worth noting that the cheapest option of 3.96 kW solar is quite tiny according to the standards of 2025, especially if you are paired with a battery. This 7.8 -KWH battery will eat up the possibility of a household in the federal battery discount, which forever excludes, which makes the incentive optimal for a larger battery that more saves the route.
In any case, it is always a good idea to get several quotes to make a more well -founded purchase decision. Note that many installers now also offer payment plans of $ 0. And it is certainly advisable to get a fundamental understanding of solar and batteries before you have committed yourself because you live with your decision for a long time.
It is also worthwhile to fumble with the solar quotes solar and battery calculator to get an idea of how the numbers are stacked under their circumstances.
Footnot
- Not a word yet if/when Zelora can be offered elsewhere in Australia. ↩
- CEFC stands for Clean Energy Finance Corporation, a specialist inventor financed by the Australian government. I do not remember that I saw something about the CEFC financing of such an initiative-but maybe it was commercial at that time and we will hear about it soon. ↩
