Arizona Public Service Expands RFP for Extra Solar Energy
Arizona Public Service Co. (APS), the largest electricity utility in Arizona, claims to be expanding an existing RFP for solar resources.
The addendum expands the scope of a December 2020 RFP that is broadly designed to provide clean, affordable energy to APS's growing customer base. The addendum provides an additional opportunity to develop a solar generating resource on APS owned land and helps fuel the company's commitment to clean energy to achieve a carbon-free electricity mix by 2050.
APS will procure approximately 600-800 MW of renewable resources and approximately 400-600 MW of capacity resources through the original all-source RFP. These resources are expected to be operational in 2023 and 2024. The addendum provides for an additional photovoltaic solar resource with 100 to 150 MW that is owned by APS and is expected to be operational in early 2023. Proposals submitted in response to the All-Source RFP and those submitted in response to the Addendum, it will be maintained and assessed on separate tracks within the timeframe set out in each of the requests.
The entire RFP process, which applies to both the original RFP and the addendum, is monitored and verified by an independent third-party monitor. APS will no longer accept proposals for the original RFP.
