We have often heard that solar manufacturers and importers complain about the lengthy process for solar collectors, inverters and batteries in order to receive a coveted approval for Clean Energy Council. And now we have a better idea of how long it is currently.
The Clean Energy Council is a gatekeeper for solar products (small renewable energies) that connect to the network in Australia.
“As a product creditation authority, it is our job to protect Australian families by corresponding to the high standards for quality, security and reliability,” says the organization. “Applications are carried out in a thorough and strict review process to ensure compliance with quality and security standards.”
Approval is a very big deal, since without IT systems, some incentives are not justified, such as the cheaper program battery program and the National Solar Panel discount that started. Both can delete thousands from the purchase costs in advance. And when it comes to solar inverters and batteries, most (all?) Electricity networks cannot connect the network unless you have this accreditation. It is also worth mentioning that the role of the gatekeeper is a nice little earner for the organization and is very important for the continuing viability of the CEC.
The CEC has accredited solar modules and inverters and batteries since 2021. As long as I can remember, there were handles related to the time frame that is associated with the approval of new equipment.
While a rushed job is often a bad job and the extremely important solar components of good quality 1, I had previously waited some manufacturers of up to one year later to complete the process.
In 2020, Angus Taylor, the then minister for energy and emission reduction, ordered a review of the Australia on a small scale of renewable energies (SRES), which included testing the approval process for and managing the continuous compliance with panels and solar change. The check was carried out by the regulatory authority for clean energy, which after a long examination entered into the end that the CEC should continue this capacity – whereby there was a significant change in the accountability to the regulatory authority.

Since the calendar has just turned to July, the processing times for June are not yet available for all categories in relation to * start * of the technical technical evaluation process:
- Sun collectors: 3 weeks in May.
- Solar inverter: 13 weeks in June (compared to 11 in May).
- Batteries: 12 weeks in May.
In each category, complete accreditation generally lasted a * 2 to 6 months (quite a range), depending on the completeness of the application to 9 months from the contact point in the case of interverters and batteries.
So if you long for solar equipment that you have seen in overseas that are not yet available in Australia, and the manufacturer claims that the influence of the CEC is a good chance that this is actually the case.
