Maintenance of the solar power system: make the safe call
A campaign on public security in Victoria – the core message, the core of which applies everywhere – asks the households to regularly inspect their solar systems on the roof.
Over Victoria, more than 833,000 small solar power systems were installed on a small scale (<100 kW). Around 500,000 of them more than 5 years ago. While the roof solar does not require much for maintenance, it is important that systems are waited appropriately to solve problems.
“The Solardach solar is constantly exposed to the elements, and over time, components such as cabling, switches and isolators can deteriorate,” said Leanne Hughson, CEO of Energy Safe Victoria.
Recommendations “Safe Call”
Energy Safe and Solar Victoria have teamed up for a new campaign to encourage solar owners to regularly inspect their systems. The campaign recommends:
- Booking of a maintenance service at least every 2 years. Solarquotes currently recommends maintaining solar systems every five years. Acceptance of a quality installation. In South Australia, the law and Victoria, network service providers (DNSPS) * System inspections every five years.
- With a licensed electrician with a grade.
- Receive a certificate for electrical security for all cabling repairs carried out.
It is important to engage an adequately qualified specialist and recognize your certificates.
“Unqualified operators who offer so -called” maintenance services “are often only panels,” said Ms. Hughson. “You are not trained to identify and repair mistakes and even cause damage or increase fire risks.”
The campaign also calls on the solar households to search for system changes or warning signs such as burning smells or unusual noises.
The original solar dealer can be a first port of an inspection. However, if you look at an adequately qualified specialist for some reason, solar quotes can recommend trades via our quota system that we know and trust.
“While the risk of these systems is relatively low, security should never be left to chance,” said Stan Krpan, CEO of Solar Victoria. “With proper maintenance, homeowners can certainly enjoy the advantages of solar.”
Maintenance can also help ensure that a system works in the best best and maximizes the power supply savings. The cost of the right inspection is currently in the range of 300 to 550 US dollars.
Energy Safe Victoria is the state’s energy safety regulator. Responsible for the safety of electricity, gas and pipeline. Solar Victoria supervises the state’s Solar Homes program, which, among other things, offers Victoria’s Solar Panel discount.
Solar power system in Victoria fires fire
According to Energy Safe, reports of 138 sunburn in the entire state have received it in the past 3 years. Many of them were avoidable with regular maintenance. In view of the number of installations in the state, it is a tiny part, but still 138 fires too many.
While breaking down the causes of these fires was not provided, it would not be inappropriate to propose a significant share that contained incorrect DC insolators on the roof.
DACH -DC -Solators * were * an obligatory requirement that should be an additional fire protection mechanism, so that Solar Panel arrays from the fire brigade staff who fought against a flame can be switched off safely to minimize the electrocohol risk. Australia was the only country with this requirement.
Ironically, DC isolators on the roof were responsible for a number of fires in all of Australia, in which the units of poor quality or not properly were installed/ waited.
After years of pressing the solar industry, an update to the AS/NZS 5033: 2021 standard in late 2021 was no longer mandatory. An alternative option is a separation point that seems to be the preferred choice under solar installations.
As part of the standard, the insulators still installed must meet the requirements, including non-flammable assembly and weather protection.
