Why Rec still supports the brutal solar market of Australia
Solar modules on my roof.
Australia loves increasingly cheap solar collectors. This has led to rumors in the solar industry that the Premium Solar Panel Maker Rec give up the Australian solar market and left the budget brands.
I had a zoo call with Jan Enno Bicker, the CEO of Rec, to determine whether these rumors are true.
His answers made two things clear:
1. Rec Australia does not go anywhere.
2. Premium Solar still has a place in Australia – also in a Cutthroat market.
Is there still space for Premium Solar?
Australia has the call to be the cheapest solar market for the industrialized countries. This is not a compliment. In this market, the lowest price often wins and good equipment is interrupted by garbage.
So it is no surprise that some people assume that companies like REC, which has built its brand in Premium panels, there is no more space.
Jan had no time for this story. His point was simple: a panel that lasts 30 years, with a minimal breakdown, it takes more than the “special business” that dies early or worsens faster.
“If we look at the Australian environment in which electricity prices rise, we are firmly convinced that the maximum yields for lifetime is much more than just the cheapest in advance,” said Jan.

What comes next from Rec next
For those who ask themselves whether Rec is still innovative, the answer is. You have the Alpha series here and a 470 -w version that is currently landing. A 500 -W panel in the same footprint is already prototyped.
They also have their eye hybrid technology that mixes silicon with thin film. This is not a gimmick for press releases – your laboratory prototypes meet that Jan impresses. It is still down the street, but it’s serious that you are the first to be on the market.
And what about cheaper panels for Australia in Rec-Branded? No. REC does not make a “budget” enrichment. If you want your things, it will be premium as always.
Support on site
A premium product without support is just a sticker price. Jan was very interested in emphasizing that Rec had real people in Australia on site.
“Instead of just having an offshore call, we literally have literally [people] Who knows the local environment and is easy to approach clear communication. So if there is ever a problem with one of our products, there should never be a problem to react to it, ”said Jan.
Installers receive training courses and consumers receive a direct line for REC if their installer disappears. In a rare step, Rec offers a 25-year work guarantee for systems installed by its certified partners. That costs Rec real money, and I was glad to hear it after spending 14 kW Rec Alpha panels for the roof of my family home.
Australia is still important
Jan reminded me that Rec has been in Australia for more than 20 years. It is one of her three best markets worldwide, and the brand is stronger here than almost somewhere else.
He was dull:
“We don’t go away.”
Yes, Australia is a brutal place for solar collectors. High UV, extreme temperatures, salty coastal air. Jan sees that Australia is an advantage Australia Recs test site. If a panel survives here, it will survive everywhere.
My attitude
Rumors are cheap. It doesn’t have to be panels.
Rec is still here, still premium, still innovative. They do not pursue the end of the market and good luck for them. It is good to know that REC supports itself with support, guarantee and long -term commitment.
So if you have Rec panels on your roof like me, relax. They don’t disappear. And if you shop solar and take care of what happens in the 20th year, Premium Solar is still taken into account.
